AZ Merit Testing New state mandated testing for writing, math, and reading is set to occur during the month of April. Students in grades 3 - 8 will have three days of testing. The assessments are not timed. For most students the writing assessment is expected to take 90 minutes. Testing of reading and math skills will occur on day two and day three of testing. Testing is expected to take 120 - 160 minutes for most students on day two and three. By state mandate, the results will not be used for grades or promotion. Each classroom teacher will be sending home the three day testing schedule for their grade level. Additionally, 4th and 8th grade students will be taking the state mandated science exam.
Our grade level assessments are scheduled as follows:
Thursday April 16 Writing Wednesday April 22 Reading 1 and Math 1 Thursday April 23 Reading 2 and Math 2
All assessments with the exception of 4th and 8th Science, will be completed on-line. Students are allowed to bring their own headphones to use during the assessments. In addition, we welcome any parent donations of headphones to the school. If your child does not have headphones, a pair will be provided for them.
Parents, we appreciate your help in ensuring your student has a positive testing experience. Please ensure your student gets plenty of rest the night before the assessment, and eats a good breakfast the morning of the assessment. Encourage him or her to do their very best! The school will provide a snack on one of the testing days for all students. In addition, we welcome snacks for the other assessment dates that are easy to open and can be eaten around technology without a mess (i.e. individually wrapped crackers or small cookies, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc.). If you send in an individual snack or donation to our classroom, please try to limit snacks such as Doritos or Cheetos that would leave a residue. As always, we appreciate any help you provide.
Since on-line testing is a new format this year, we welcome any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact Dr. Yopp or Mrs. Tipton or Mrs. McKnight at623-523-8550."
